This program, launched in 1996 and completed in 2006, aimed to make available detailed, accurate information about the nature of scientific and technical careers.
Degrees in science and engineering are among the most versatile available to a college student, yet good quality information about scientific careers is not readily available. In this small program, the Foundation led efforts to create a repository of detailed, accurate information about careers in science, mathematics and engineering. Foundation grantmaking led to the creation, in 2003, of the Sloan Career Cornerstone Center, an ever-expanding online repository of information covering more than 150 scientific and technical fields. For each career, the site lists educational requirements, salary ranges, networking opportunities, career planning resources, and interviews with career professionals. Career Cornerstone represents invaluable resource for students, career advisors and high school and college guidance counselors seeking information about the prospects and challenges of work in science and technology.
Foundation support ended in 2006.
